Welcome to Year 3/4!

Class Teacher - Mr Draper
BSL Communicator - Miss Jones
Hello everyone, I'm Mr. Draper, and welcome to our Year 3/4 class page. Here you will find some useful information about what to expect this year, what I expect from you and most importantly lots of the fun things we might be able to get up to this year!
Manners, Respect and Effort.
The three qualities we always expect in Grange and specifically in the Year 3/4 classroom!
If you strive to achieve these then you will succeed in class, in Grange and in your future lives!
Important class information
Homework:
Every Monday the pupils will develop their spelling and times table skills and be tested on their weekly lists. A new list will be issued every week so please ensure that pupils have an opportunity to practice these at home.
Reading:
Children are provided with opportunities to read independently and for pleasure daily in Year 3/4
Therefore, your child will be expected to have a reading book in school every day. These can be borrowed from our book corner, a book-banded book, or their own book from home. These books can be kept in their lockers at school or brought home if they wish to continue reading in their free time. We will aim to change our reading books every Tuesday so that we are not bringing the same book home week after week.
We will also have visits to the Library throughout the year to develop the love for reading we want all pupils in Grange to have, and encourage the children to get their own library card if possible.
P.E
Our P.E session will be every Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their P.E kit which should include suitable footwear and comfortable, flexible clothing that can be worn indoors or outdoors.
This term our P.E topic is net and wall games, with a focus on Squash! This will end with a visit to the Swansea Tennis and Squash Club to recieve a certificate!
Drinks Bottles and Snacks:
We are a Healthy School and promote the children having continuous access to clean water. Please ensure your child brings in a labelled drinks bottle. This is in addition to any water bottles you wish to provide for lunchtime. The children will have continual access to drinking water throughout the day. If they would like to bring their own snack for playtimes, please ensure it is healthy (e.g. fruit, vegetables, or cereal bars).
Our topic this term is
Riots and Revolution (Local Celts)
Long ago, before there were cities and cars, Wales was home to the Celts, brave people who lived in small villages and cared deeply for their land. These Celts weren’t just ordinary farmers or builders – they were warriors too! They fought many battles to protect their homes and their way of life.
Sometimes, when people were unhappy with how they were being treated, they would stand up and fight. This could lead to riots – big protests where people demanded change. Other times, these struggles became so important that they turned into revolutions – where everything changed, and new leaders took charge.
In Wales, some of the most exciting stories come from these times of battle and bravery. You’ll learn about famous Celtic warriors, the reasons they fought, and how they lived their daily lives. You’ll discover how these battles shaped the Wales we know today, from our mountains to our villages. So, get ready to travel back in time and explore the world of Celtic riots and revolutions!
